The Ache and the Heartbreak

At one point if you have ever lived you might find yourself suffering from a broken heart.

My heart breaks a lot, sometimes a little sometimes a lot.

I blame it on my accessible emotion. On being generous with my heart.

I would rather offer love in any relationship than not.

Some shelter, some refuse to experience the multi-faceted experience of love and pain.

Loves pain can crack you open to a newer deepened experience of yourself.

Why stand in a shallow when you can immerse yourself fully experience bliss but risk the pain.

All artwork my own - https://www.redbubble.com/people/Lisadee

A heart is immense it has reign and terrain for everything. The many forms of love of friendship, courtship, of things and places, of objects, concepts, and spaces, of music, textures, and tastes.

Love does not ruin us it is what makes us alive.

"Love don't make things nice, it ruins everything, it breaks your heart, it makes things a mess. We're not here to make things perfect. Snowflakes are perfect! The stars are perfect! Not us! Not us! We are here to ruin ourselves and break our hearts and love the wrong people and die!"

Some Women Just Don't Get Sex ::: Am I a Woman Hater?

I have heard it all.

He wants it all the time

He wanted it again last night

I can't be bothered anymore

Who has the time?

I have to much to do

I hadn't had a shower

I didn't feel like it at the time

etc, etc, etc.

I sympathize with some men I honestly do.

Over the years I have discussed sex with a myriad of women and men. Most men that are in male female relationships love their women, tired, washed, unwashed, fettered or unfettered.

Men crave and desire affection as well as sexual attention.

Women it seems draw a distinct line in the sand when it comes to affection and sex. WRONG!

What if your partner genuinely finds you attractive? Stimulating? Desirable?
Is that a crime? Isn't physicality also a deep part of intimacy?

I think a husband, a lover, a partner should be given the love and respect you would give to a friend - that's  the benchmark - that and some more obviously. I hear women chastise their partners openly and scornfully and I think He wouldn't take that from a friend and she wouldn't inflict that upon a friend.

I don't get it.

Back to sex...I see men at the mercy of their partners fickle, often waning or very vanilla sexual appetite - poor guy.

But this is the grind for me... the notion that she has to GIVE it, he TAKES something, he GETS something.

NO NO NO

You have something, you share something, you get something. YOU TOO CAN ENJOY SEX LADIES!

I am sorry but I have watched good decent loving hard working partners made miserable, castrated by the power play of sex, ladies you don't hold all the cards...

but you can...

and have fun playing them.

More on this subject soon...and be good to your libido!

Another thing I do

Along with sewing and a love of the visual I have always drawn and am happy with about any medium although the soft willow charcoal has its certain charm ink pens and Aquarelle (water soluble pencils) are my tried and true favorites.

My themes are usually people and they have gone through one metamorphose after another. I do find however themes of loneliness or solitude reappear I do not see either state negative I find it can feed the soul re energise and refuel me...another constant is humans embracing and happy families.

These are two of my favorite images they are framed beautifully although this is not shown and do illustrate isolation beautifully to me, they are painted on small canvas boards and I used oil paints - my first try. After they were complete I took some lessons in oil painting but preferred my own methods.

This image MY VIEW FROM THE MOON was inspired by friend of mine.

This is more a self portrait

CLARA TAKES ON THE WORLD

I must have been feeling brave that day.
A favorite style and image of mine based on friendship is the following its a hand drawn collage featuring text, painted and refined digitally - but enjoy creating in a hands on way.

MATILDA AND SCARLETT

Then there are the love and hugs as mushy as it gets
TARRED WITH THE SAME BRUSH
AUTUMN IN YOUR ARMS is a part of a series of vintage inspired works that can be seen and purchased as cards and prints here THAT CERTAIN KIND OF CHARM

and here is a new kind of theme coming through another palette.

COME ALONG LITTLE ONE
I still love to draw and its mostly for myself, to relax - completely, I love the smell of paper, the ink, the pencil sharpening the dirty paint water the mess the drips, I even enjoy the cleaning up afterwards, there is little that comes close to that sort of quiet meditation - its a good kind of solitude.

But we all love company.

CHANGE vs FEELING SHORT CHANGED

Change vs feeling short changed...lets start with change, the changes that occur as a result of simply being human, human development takes place largely unbeknown to the individual during life's early stages. A child learns to reach, sit up crawl, walk and speak within the first 2 years of its life although for the most part the individual is completely unaware of the giant progression and leaps taken forward in this nubile stage. The childhood years and teen years are full of milestones we are all aware of from reading and writing to physicality and rights of passage, running races, ticking off each school year and phase - again all vast and broad changes and stages of development mark these years although during this time we are much more aware.

Change in adulthood...I always touted myself or thought as myself as an individual who embraced and welcomed change, and for the most part I have even when the cards did not play out as anticipated I brightly took on what I was dealt good bad or indifferent. Now people I am by no ways a fatalist I am definitely a determinist which leads me to the resistance I am feeling in changing at present, or dually present frustration at not changing fast enough.

Being aware of change, initiating it, pushing for it is all fine and good but sometimes life and our brains are resistant - thus the rub...a comfortable rut.

So what leads us to true change, even minute?
Feeling short changed : That discomfort the grit, either it gets the better of you or you use it for impetus to change. I have personally witnessed individuals that have let a knock back or knock on their tail mar them permanently. 'It was all good till'...'If only it had have gone my way'...etc. Just as I have known persons with mammoth burdens and life challenges to have great bright spirits and get on all the same. So what about us mere mortals with only the self to instigate the change either we get comfortable in the discomfort and have an unhealthy relationship with  the resentment it builds within or we action the desired change. Behavior is so clear and easy to speak of until the heart and mind meet bringing us to emotion.
The 'rub' needs to be of enough discomfort or the change is rewarding so that we move towards it without resistance, so why when this is true do we sometimes waste time and rob ourselves, short changing ourselves of the benefits of positive change? I think its the rut, the hammy wheel, the wind is breezing through our little hamster feet and we feel we are moving, such effort, around and around, stepping of requires a wee leap of faith, but I imagine the hamster me landing then rolling and and writhing the spine back and forth like a dog face up on the lawn, then perhaps some bounding, tongue lagging out the side of the mouth happily panting after it, so I am morphing from hamster to dog - stick with me.

I have certainly had enough 'rub and grit' to require change so I will continue to embrace change and sometimes have to accept its sluggish rate.

This portrait of me taken by a talented friend - its more about reach, the pose, the tentative balance, the metal stretch. Perhaps this is required so we do not short change ourselves.

I will bend over backwards for myself like I used to for others and I will make the changes for me...so I can better embrace life. Amen.

And What of Love?

And what of love?
What becomes of love?

What is the nucleolus of the love?
What is the motivation of the love?

Is love timely, is it wrong and incorrect?
Can love be wasted?

Is love ever wasted?
What if a love exists for 20 years and dies?
What if it exists in a few heart beats as some fantasy catches your eye?

I believe love is never in vain, never wasted and never a futile emotion. I believe love should lead, it should be the invisible aether thread pulling us forth by the neck towards love and desires...

of all kinds.

I have many loves of objects and things, experiences and times of songs and rhymes, people and pets, memories and notions. My loves are outlined here in previous posts but love deep profound love....it is an altogether different thing, it exists in both forms in good and bad.

Love Like a Serpent

Some people love like a serpent with stealth and an ill and malicious motivation their lust and desire when disguised may tempt you all the same.
The serpent strangles and constricts their aim to smother you.
Constriction applied as a reaction to your every move.

If you have ever loved a serpent then woken one day suddenly to realize they are wrong and they are cold, the look in their eye was not one of love but of the intense longing to see you immobilized and wither till you die,

you wake in shock,
move away and continue on.

Love Like Heaven

A Love Like Heaven exults and glorifies us, our chests expand and heave, our minds and souls free.
Love like heaven is delicious and heady euphoric.
To love like this is open and fair it is the blossoming of our hearts and minds, our souls and is conscious dreamy and while like a fine intoxicating vapor it is definite and resonate,
we recognize it,
it arrests us as it peals through out our being.

Love like heaven is a gentle sweet embrace,
it is barely being held,
there is room to move to grow,
it is a space where good intentions and actions can grow and multiply can enhance and beautify.

Love like heaven one day might come to me.

November already....I dislike shopping at the best of times let alone when there are nasty jingles and tinsel and throngs of desperate shoppers feeling anything but festive.

Pour me a long iced tea with a mint spring, fire up the Mac or pc and get comfy, I have decided to do the majority of my shopping and shipping on line Whoo Hoo! No parking, my own music soundtrack and the 12 hours I would have spent trudging back...that time i intend to spend having friends over and enjoying their company, not just diving in to drop of a cheesy present (well haven't we all be caught in that trap before!?) and another thing I am buying multiple people the same gift...from the heart.

Gift giving - its appreciated always but even more so when its a desired or useful item personally speaking that is.

So with that in mind and with a thick slather of self promotion applied this is what I intend to buy / give...
A selection of Calendars - I get good feedback all year from these Art Calendars

$22.00 each (AU) Bargain!

Or a framed print...I get my family and friends to choose from here and Santa does the rest Shop here

For the Love of Art

Long before I understood what it was that I was taking into the deepest recesses of my nubile mind I have been captivated by dimensions and scale. I think art is best taken in like that openly without preconception or filtering through the critical or cynical mind.

Sculpture is something that truly excites me there is something so remarkable about the three dimensional form and it being appreciable and transitional from every angle.

In terms of sculpture the stand outs are as follows.
Allen Jones 1969

Then there's Jeff Koons and his take on German kitch - think Hansel and Gretel on acid but my heart belongs to puppy. A three story tall steel structure that is replete with floral 'fur' the concept alone is mind boggling let alone its execution. I think he is a contemporary Warhol. This image to my knowledge is the first and original 'Puppy' and has been recreated on a number of occasions around the world including Rockefeller Center.
PUPPY Jeff Koons

Puppy Two
A few years at the National Gallery of Victoria to see Man Ray I discovered the Mr and Mrs Woodman series. Clever Subtle Erotic and Intense they are housed at the Centre Pompidou in France. I am still astounded by the intimacy achieved by these inanimate objects, I find these images beautifully touching.

I have been drawing faceless dolls for years before I seeing these images and related to the tone of the works the juxtaposition of the materials and content, the lack of faces - void of detail that emitted an audible sensual roar. The images shown here are quite tame there are more in the series that take on a more intense and exacting sexual tone. It is also of note the period these works were created.

My version of little faceless beings in love My art 'Love Soaked Sox' and another 'It's All About the Dance - and the music only you two hear. It's all about the Dance

A more recent find a neat little sculpture...'The Power of Love' by Mathieu Lehanneur -you can listen to it...together!

And if ever you find yourself at http://www.heide.com.au/ Heidelberg Melbourne Australia there is another of my favourites permanently on display there, it is a small scale bronze donkey he is hidden amoungst the greenery on the grounds of the property and is waiting for you. He was first made from carpet underlay before he was cast and is possibly the most adorable thing ever. Did I mention I have a thing for donkeys - I may well have done in a previous post.

Some Images I Truly Adore.

Honey I'm Home...
and it's Martini Time!

I just adore this image and those that follow but this first one is the epitome of style, sophistication and romance...ahhhhh swoon.
The Subtle Siren of 1952.....
This image of a lone woman evokes so much the mood and level of heightened fashion stylization is just divine - beautiful portrait.

Perfection in Red...
Disarming smile, come hither beckoning eyes, she looks soft to the touch. Shamaltsy Perfection!
Dangerously Hot Fox : First Prize...
Clearly on the prowl - she looks like she devours men for the game. Got to love her!

My love of .........Whats Not Fashionable at the Time

Now this may be one of the most risque 'shares' of my entire lifetime. I do like to think of myself of a modernist to some degree with traditional values but I have never been afraid to challenge convention either.

As most of you now know I am a clothing designer, stylist and an artist. My love of beauty and detail goes into the appreciation and creation of my work and the things I have collected over many years.

So with my heart on my sleeve I must confess...amongst my collection of mid century ceramics, vintage sewing accessories, jewelery and clothing including cravats and tie pins and the best cuff links you could ever imagine...tucked in a drawer here and there and yes snuck subtly onto display in my home- lets call it subversively (makes me feel cool and edgy) are my .........pause for effect...........doilies and hand embroidered table cloths and linen.

I LOVE THEM!

There I have said it...they are small intimate treasures hand stitched desires, hearts poured into small neat threads of carefully selected color, hand made lace, starching and ideas of permanence. Small details to cover protect and covet the furniture purchased once to last a lifetime, in a time when in that patient diligence of heartfelt creation pride and dignity was poured.

Young girls were taught by their mothers, aunts, sisters and grandmothers how to sew, how to sit and master the fine grade weaves and knots, how to tat, embroider and sew, these divine little creations were passed on, carefully placed into glory boxes and hope chests...it seems that hiding behind my perm in the mid 80's my mind had notions like that. So there in my best gloried funk traipsing around Melbourne's not so cool streets then Johnston,Greville and Smith Streets, Plenty Road and High Street I gathered and collected all manner of what people perceived to be rubbish...as listed above. You must remember folks this is in a time of Salmon and Grey decor...and while I am at it I do own a hand full of smashing Nanna hats too...they were just to well made to ignore.

Back to the doilies...perhaps I should just let the pictures do the talking - these are taken in my home and perhaps reflect my mish mash approach to the era's I love.

Do you think Janice loved her David? On the other corners of this small square linen table cloth is what I suspect to be the children's initials - one is shown here...

Are you expecting?
I think the babies pillow slip is machine embroidered but is still exquisite to me.

Ok another fetish I have is for donkeys they have the kindest eyes, lovely lashes and work so hard...this is probably my most favorite piece! This is one corner of a square table cloth - so 50's!

Ok so this ones a multiple brag - I threw together the art works and the phone is possibly one of the best things I have ever been given its been embellished to be known as the Glamor Phone and the jewelery box is something else I love given to me by my big sister - the flowers were a gift from the Mothers Day stall from my sons and it all sits upon an embroidered place-mat that's far to delicate to ever be used for those purposes.

Close up.
